Case Study / Corporate & Business Facilities
Challenge
Rineanna House, a key facility within the Shannon Free Zone, had long struggled with poor indoor mobile connectivity. Staff, visitors, and operational teams frequently experienced dropped calls, slow mobile data, and inconsistent 4G/5G coverage, particularly in critical office areas. Internal building materials and layout caused significant signal attenuation, with measured indoor levels ranging from -90 dBm to -120 dBm — far below the threshold for reliable communication.
These connectivity issues disrupted workflow, impaired staff communication, and limited the use of mobile-enabled devices critical to daily operations. Previous attempts to rely on carrier signal strength or individual boosters failed to address coverage gaps comprehensively. Recognising the ongoing operational impact, Rineanna House engaged WaveBoosters Ireland to provide a permanent, fully compliant, and professionally engineered solution that could transform the building into a future-ready communication hub.
Solution
Following a detailed site survey and spectrum analysis, WaveBoosters Ireland designed a wideband mobile signal boosting solution covering all major Irish networks (Vodafone, Three, and Eir Mobile) across all key frequency bands (2G, 3G, LTE 4G, and 5G). The solution was tailored to meet the operational needs of staff, visitors, and mission-critical devices while providing room for future network evolution.

Key components of the solution included:
- Rooftop External Antennas: Strategically positioned to capture strong outdoor signals and feed the building’s distributed network.
- Dual Amplifier System: High-performance amplifiers installed on the 2nd and 4th floors, each supporting over 40 indoor antennas to ensure uniform coverage.
- Distribution Antenna System (DAS): A passive network that reliably distributes mobile signals across all areas of the building.
- Indoor Omni and Panel Antennas: Strategically installed in corridors, offices, and high-traffic areas to maximise signal penetration while maintaining a visually discreet aesthetic.
The solution was designed not only to address immediate connectivity challenges but also to future-proof the building against evolving mobile technologies, ensuring robust 4G/5G readiness.
Installation
WaveBoosters Ireland carried out the installation on 6 June 2025, following stringent engineering and safety protocols. Rooftop donor antennas were aligned for optimal line-of-sight to nearby cellular towers, while coaxial feeds were routed carefully through risers and cable trays to minimise disruption to daily operations. Amplifiers were tuned on-site to maximise signal amplification without oscillation, and internal antennas were positioned according to measured propagation characteristics to deliver consistent coverage throughout all areas.
The installation was completed efficiently, without delays or operational interruptions, and all equipment was installed in full compliance with COMREG regulations.
Results
Post-installation verification confirmed a transformative improvement in indoor mobile connectivity. Signal levels across Rineanna House improved from previously inadequate ranges of -90 dBm to -120 dBm to consistently strong readings between -61 dBm and -85 dBm across Vodafone, Three, and Eir Mobile networks. Key outcomes included:
- Voice Communications: Clear, uninterrupted calls across all floors and operational zones.
- Data Performance: Significantly faster and more reliable LTE 4G/5G connectivity for staff, visitors, and mobile-enabled devices.
- Coverage Reliability: Over 95% of the building now enjoys strong mobile signal levels of -85 dBm or better, ensuring seamless operational efficiency.
Networks and Frequencies Covered
- 2G (900/1800 MHz): Reliable voice connectivity across all networks.
- 3G (900/2100 MHz): Consistent mobile data performance.
- 4G / LTE / 5G (800/1800 MHz and higher): High-speed data transfers with improved upload and download performance.
